Review #4 Unchikun and Heart Moko Moko Toilet

I have wonder for some time now, why Japanese people love poop related items!?  They can be cute, and let’s be honest... we all poop!  Japanese folks go as far as making kawaii poop toys and characters, having a poop museum and making synthetic meat out of poop...  Can you imagine a burger made out of poop!?  I sure can't!!!

In Japan, is very common to talk about poop in polite conversations.  Usually when we talk about poop is to make fun of somebody, curse, or just table talk and when we do is not in public since this is considered rude. ^___^

We all know (and some of us love) Mr. Hanky The Christmas Poo from the cartoon South Park.  He is a little turd that likes to "spread" love and happiness to the children of South Park, specialy Stan.  It was very choking when this character was introduced in the series.  He appears in several episodes and they tend to make it very clear that he is a poop by making poop rain, smearing poop on the kids’ faces and on any surface.  This makes the character a very gross one at times.

Now, when it comes to Japan, we see poop on a different note.  It is cute, colorful, not gross, natural and poop characters make you feel like poop is your friend!  How!?  By just treating poop like what it is, something that is part of our lives and not a taboo.  Also, by giving it a charm and cute colors, adorable voices and quirky personalities on anime.
The best example of how poop can be kawaii is one of our favorite novelty okashi, Unchikun.  Unchi means poop in Japanese.

- Unchikun -

This adorable poop, comes in different colors and with different faces.  Inside of each Unchikun you will find 10 individually wrapped little poop shaped hard candies.  The flavors are strawberry, lemon, ramune and green apple.  After you are done eating all of the candy, your Unchikun can be used as a poopie bank!  The opening at the bottom where you get the candy from  can be closed and you cut an opening on the back so you can put money inside.

A new item to our inventory is the Moko Moko Mokolet (Moko Moko Toilet) by Heart.  Poop’s BFF! This is by far one of the funniest yet weird snacks I have EVER tried!!!  You have to put the toilet together.  Once you are done, you make a cola drink or a ramune drink in the toilet tank and you drink it right out of the toilet bowl!!!  This was just too weird for me, but we could not stop giggling while we were making it.

The reaction that I get from people is so far the same, “why are the Japanese obsessed with poop?!”  Honestly I believe that they are not obessesed with poop! I believe that since poop is something natural, that we all do, Japanese talk about it in a very comfortable way.

Now lets have a drink for poop! :D
